‘Playing at Power’ with Tito and Burton
7digital Creative have made a new programme for BBC Radio 4 that recalls a fascinating moment in movie history.
Presenter Matthew Sweet learns how legendary actor Richard Burton was invited by Yugoslavian president Josip Broz Tito to play Tito himself in a partisan film about World War II: Battle of Sutjeska.
Producer Mollie uses interviews, archive clips and extracts from Burton’s diary (brilliantly read by actor Johnny Flynn, in Burton’s own voice) to explore how celebrity, politics and power collided on a film set in 1973.
